A relatively new branch of archaeology, forensic archaeology, contributes to providing the justice system with accurate scientific information about genocide sites and their contents. This information is crucial in proving that a crime has been committed, as well as possibly indicating who committed it.
With the development of archaeology in the twentieth century, its methods and techniques were employed in the service of forensic work and genocide sites, and contributed to determining their characteristics, composition and contents.
