The Sumerians excelled at writing, and significant excavations have provided us with numerous types of continuous texts. These texts encompass a wide range of topics, covering all aspects of life, including economic, religious, and historical affairs, allowing us to reconstruct a picture of Sumerian history and thought.
This research aims to highlight a specific aspect of the exclusive royal inscriptions found on royal cones, which are considered foundational stones. These cones, studied in the Iraqi Museum in Baghdad under the number (212034-MA), are among the most important texts.
The cone, an ibud from the burnt Lai, is 11 cm long. It bears a votive text dedicated to Gudea, the prince of Lagash, as we will explain later.
