Back-to-back art in Mesopotamian art is an artistic style that depends on distributing artistic elements or some of them in a single scene in a staggered manner, meaning that each of those elements gives its back to the other, whether they are human, animal, or composite creatures. Those elements may stagger with each other directly, meaning without an element in between them, or the staggering may be indirect in the case of an element in the middle of the staggered elements. The staggered elements may match, be similar, or differ according to the purpose and meaning of the artistic scene. The staggered elements may be groups, meaning that two or more elements stagger with two or more elements in a single artistic scene, or the staggering may be partial in the scene, meaning that each of those elements gives its back to the other with the head turned backwards.
