The research focused on the political and military relationship between the Chagatai state in Transoxiana and the Yuan Mongol dynasty in China after the death of Möngke Khan, and the pivotal role of the Chagatai state in tipping the balance of power between the two brothers. Kublai and Ariq Buqa competed to gain the loyalty of the Chagatai Khanates to bolster their legitimacy. Kublai intervened in the affairs of the Chagatai Alus by appointing "Abisha" and then "Buraq" to ensure control over them.
