The visit of former US President Theodore Roosevelt to Cairo and his speech at the Egyptian University revealed the awakening of the Egyptian national movement, which encompassed a wide spectrum of Egyptian society, each expressing themselves in their own way and style. This awakening and these clear stances were in line with the desires and demands of the Egyptian people.
He expressed his clear and explicit rejection of the British occupation and its administration, and subsequently the Egyptian governments loyal to them, which were undeniably inspired by the occupation, whether in their governmental program or in their daily dealings with Egyptian society, especially with its national aspirations, which the British administration and its American guest disregarded. His words had a negative impact even on Britain, breaking the silence on extremely important issues, foremost among them national unity and national independence. As the only way to achieve freedom and democracy in Egypt.
