The research dealt with the role of the United States in overthrowing Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah on February 24, 1966, and the international reactions, as after the end of World War II, liberation movements in the Third World began to rage in order to gain their country’s independence from colonialism, in addition to the existence of international competition between the United States and the Soviet Union to obtain Over areas of influence and control, and in the midst of this battle, Ghanaian leader Kwame Nkrumah emerged to plan his own policy and lean towards the communist camp and the non-aligned countries, which posed a threat to the interests of the United States of America, so it began to look for opportunities and contrive things to get rid of him.
The research dealt with Ghana’s achievement of independence in 1957 and the emergence of Kwame Nkrumah as a political leader until his election as President of Ghana in 1960, and how he moved away from the United States and the West in his policies and closer to the Soviet Union and the non-aligned countries. The research also presented the Ghanaian army and its composition, how it developed, the sources of its armament, and how Ghanaians took over its leadership and management. What is the United States’ relationship with its leaders .
The research touched on the role of the Central Intelligence Agency and the American embassy in the overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah, and this was revealed by American reports and documents, which confirmed the fall of Nkrumah a year before the coup. The research also reviewed the regional and international reactions and positions to the military coup that overthrew Nkrumah.
